Obituary For Stella W. Polk
Stella W. Polk, 63, Rapid City died Saturday, Jan. 28, 2012 at Rapid City Regional Hospital. She was born Aug 22, 1948 in Atlanta, GA to Paul and Helen (Bishop) Bell. She graduated from Brown High School in Atlanta in 1966. Stella married her next door neighbor, Robert W. Polk on Aug. 8, 1971 in Atlanta. She worked at a variety of jobs while spending 24 years as a loyal military wife. She gave thousands of hours of volunteer work, including running a large ‘free warehouse’ on Ellsworth Air Force Base, providing clothes, furniture and toys to airmen and their families in need. They also lived in Goldsboro, NC and Plattsburgh, NY, returning to South Dakota in August 1993 after Bob retired from the US Air Force. Stella worked for Greentree/Conseco for 10 years. Her family was her life and she enjoyed long peaceful drives through Custer State Park searching out wildlife and enjoying the beauty God has provided for us in the Black Hills. Stella is survived by her husband Bob, her son Robert Polk, III; her daughter Jennifer and her grandson Jareth, all of Rapid City; her mother Helen O. Bell, Hull, GA; 2 brothers Steve Bell, Ft. Worth, TX and Jim Bell, Franklin, TN and her sister Vicki Wilson, Memphis, TN. She is preceded in death by her father William Paul Bell. Stella was a devoted Christian wife to Bob for over 40 years and a wonderful mother and grandmother. She will be sorely and forever missed.
