Obituary For Vada M. O'Dell
Vada M. O’Dell, 94, Rapid City died Saturday Dec. 15, 2007 at the Golden Livingcenter Bella Vista Nursing home. Marjorie Vada Papke was born Feb. 4, 1913 in Maryville, NE to John and Olive (Spragg) Papke. She grew up and attended rural school south of Winner. She worked in the outlaw store in Winner as a young girl and later when her husband was in the Army, during WW II. She later was the bookkeeper for the implement business and also for her husbands trucking business, East-West Motor Express of Rapid City, SD. Vada married Charles P. ‘Dick’ O’Dell in Pierre on Dec. 31, 1943. They made their home in the rural Winner area and later moved into town where they ran an implement business. They later moved to Sioux Falls where they ran a Dairy Queen; then to Wyoming and then to Rapid City in 1957. Grateful for having shared her life are her husband Charles P. ‘Digger’ O’Dell, Rapid City; her sister-in-law Patti Behrens, Rapid City; special friend Mary Carrier, Rapid City and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Oscar and Jack and her sister Mayzie Tunks.
