Obituary For Vernon Eugene Selig

Vernon Selig, 57, of Rapid City, SD, passed away on August 26, 2025.

Born on April 24, 1968, in Sheridan, WY, Vernon lived a life filled with love, laughter, and devotion to family. He and his wife, Trish, shared 35 wonderful years of marriage, building a home where kindness, guidance, and unwavering support were always present.

Vernon was known for his love of the Black Hills in which finding new hiking trails, taking long drives, and trying every new restaurant brought him great joy. He loved the yearly family trips abroad, and one of the highlights of his life was visiting 17 European countries with his wife and kids. He beamed with pride watching his son, Nick expertly play the guitar and was awestruck by his daughter, Gina’s musical talent on the piano- writing, producing, and singing her original songs. Vernon passionately loved his teacup Yorkie named Mo, and hanging out with friends at Strive Fitness was the highlight of his day. His warmth and generosity touched everyone who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Trish, his daughter Gina of Washington, DC, his son, Nick and daughter-in-law, Anna of Rapid City, his sister-in-law, Shana Baldwin of Spearfish, his brother, Vince of Granite Falls, North Carolina, and his sister, Jessi Hegy of Sheridan, WY. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ernie and Garna of Sheridan, WY.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the Humane Society of the Black Hills.

Vernon will be deeply missed, but his love and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Trish - My wife Sara and I own Strive Fitness, and we hope you know that his 3-hour "workouts" were not only a big part of his life, they were a huge part of ours, and the lives of the members around him. He brought joy to the gym with his sense of humor and kindness, and everyone loved being around him. Our Strive family has felt the loss every time we walk into the gym since his passing. Thank you for sharing him with us, and know that our thoughts and prayers are with you every day.

Words can't express the sorrow we feel from the loss of Vern. Those many years ago when moving in to the house next door, a quick and long lasting friendship was born. He was a constant in my life through all the good times and not so good times. Even if we hadn't physically seen ech other in a while, one phone call, one shared message, or even a brief meet up instantly connected us back together, like we still lived next door. I will miss him greatly. Our thoughts and prayers are with Trish and the family.

Unoffically, from the staff of RCAS Student Transportion, those of us who knew Vern were sadened to hear of his passing. Vern had a quiet strength, was good with his bus students, was easy to Sub Drive for when he took time off. Vern and I took several long distance trips together, with bussing, and was an an easy companion to get along with. His absence was noticed when he left the bus job, and will be missed by those of us who knew him. Blessings to the family, and love. John Johnson.
