Obituary For Viola G. Straw

Viola Gladys ‘Toots’ Mohr Straw of Hill City went home to be with the Lord. She passed away December 30, 2010 at Custer Regional Hospital at age 84.Viola was born March 2, 1926 to William and Evangeline (Patterson) Mohr at Agar, SD. She was 2 years old her mother and family moved to Moon, SD in 1928. She was raised on the Compton Ranch at Limestone, SD and attended school at the Limestone Mountain School District , Moon, SD. She also attended the Buckhorn and Horton Schools.Viola married Loite James Straw on June 5, 1945 at the Hill City, SD Assembly of God Church. Twelve children were born to the marriage.Survivors include her children; Annette (Duane) Groves, Hill City, Floyd Straw, Fairburn, Donna Coppess, Nisland, Donald (Sherree) Straw, Rapid City, Donavan Straw, Bridge Water, Danny (Doreen) Straw, Hill City, Diane (Bill) Vanderbeek, Custer, Duane (Brenda) Straw, Hill City, Bonnie (Jerry) Goodroad, Nisland, Ronald Straw, Yankton, Dennis (Kiki) Straw, Hill City; 23 grandchildren; 17 great grandchildren; siblings, Robert Orsborn, Lewis Jr. Compton, Gussie Nissen, Wayne Compton, Martha Tober and many friends around the Hill City area.She was preceded in death by her husband, Loite Straw, parents, son, Derwin Straw, grandson, Frank ‘Jay Jay’ Mahoney and a brother, Arnold Orsborn .
