Obituary For Wanda Billingslea Smith
Wanda Billingslea Smith, 84, Box Elder, died Monday Jan. 21, 2008 at Golden Livingcenter Prairie Hills. Wanda was born in Little Rock, AR in 1923. She graduated from Little Rock Central High School and graduated with honors from Henderson University at Arkadelphia, AR. Wanda was among a group of young women volunteering to spend their summers helping in the World War II war effort. She felt honored by having been chosen to serve in the office of the Army Chief of Staff in the Pentagon. Following the war, she taught school in various places of the United States where her then-husband, an oil company geologist, happened to be assigned and later at an American School in Belem, Brazil. In 1980 she married Meade County native and author Rex Alan Smith and they lived for a time in Fayetteville, AR, where Rex was then in business. In the late 1980’s, they returned to and have since lived on the Meade county ranch where Rex was born. A gracious, charming little lady, from there she has been engaged in many activities and has made a host of friends by whom she will be missed.She is survived by her husband Rex Smith, Box Elder; 2 daughters, Cindy Luterman, Dallas, TX; Claudia Galloway, Springdale, AR; step-daughter Chantry Nelson, Lincoln, NE; 2 grandchildren, Lynn Gill, Springdale, AR; Clay Galloway, Florida and 1 great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents; son Rick McCreight and brother Sonny Billingslea.
