Obituary For Wesley W. Larsen

Wesley Wayne Larsen, 75, Rapid City, passed away after a long battle with cancer on March 15, 2007. Wesley was born on October 14, 1931 in Viewfield, S. D. to Bernhard and Pearl Larsen. He was baptized at Trinity Lutheran Church. He went to grade school in the Viewfield area and attended high school in New Underwood, S.D, and graduated in 1949. He was in the US Navy from 1951- 1954. In 1957, Wes went to Minneapolis, MN where he met and married Leone (Toni) Sidie, on June 27, 1959. They moved to South Dakota in 1959. In April 1960 they moved into the home where they are currently living. Wes returned to college in 1965 and graduated from the School of Mines and Technology in 1968 with a degree in Civil Engineering. He went to work at S.D. Concrete Products in 1970 and worked there until he retired in 1990. He was licensed to South Dakota Professional Engineer Society of the State in 1971. After his retirement he enjoyed wood working. He designed and built many different kinds of oak furniture for his family and friends. He also enjoyed working in his garden, especially raising about 65 different types of roses. He enjoyed being at home, taking care of his wife, home and yard. Wes is survived by his wife Leone (Toni) of Rapid City, SD. Two daughters, Linae (Miguel) Salinas of Quartz Hill, CA, and Kimberly (Ed) Whalen of Enumclaw, WA, four grandchildren, Adam (Rachel) Raley, Eric Raley, Rachael and Joseph Wesley Whalen; three great grandchildren, Trentin, Anastasia, and Arabelle Raley; two brothers, Carl Larsen of Fort Lupton, CO, and Chuck (Luvene) Larsen of New Underwood; one sister-in-law Margaret Larsen of New Underwood and numerous nieces and nephews. Wes was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and a brother, Donald, and one sister-in law, Ruth.
