Obituary For William 'Bill' Richard Powers

William “Bill” R Powers, 79, Rapid City, died on Monday Dec 2, 2013 at his home. He was born July 5, 1934 in Kimball, SD to Dave and Mary (Birkemeier) Powers. He graduated from Kimball High School in 1952. He married the love of his life, Viola Thayer on Dec 27, 1954. They had eight children. Bill worked various jobs in his lifetime, including managing a gas station in Kimball, installing natural gas in Philadelphia, managing Hudson Oil in Rapid City for several years and was a boom truck driver at missile sites. His hobbies were hunting, fishing and most of all was trap shooting. He was a member at the Rapid City Trap Club for many years. He would travel all over for the State Shoots and he won numerous trophies and belt buckles. He left us with so many happy memories and our hearts overflowing with love. We will miss him every hour of every day until, our paths cross again. Bill is survived by three sons, Ronnie, Randy and Tim Powers and four daughters, Debbie (Terry) Morgan, Mary (John) Diehl, Brenda (Jerry) Milacek and Alicia O’Connor, all of Rapid City; 21 grandchildren; 30 great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; one sister, Bernice (Gene) Altman, Kimball, SD and sisters-in-law, Maryann Powers, Kimball; Lillian Powers, Sturgis and special friend, Joann. He was preceded in death by his wife Viola, his parents, one son Kenny Powers, four brothers, Johnny, Leonard, Marty and Donald Powers and two sisters, Gertrude Powers and Darlene Gerdes.
