Obituary For William 'Don' Foster

William ‘Don’ Foster, Rapid City, passed away quietly in his home on April 5, 2014 at the age of 84. Don was born March 25, 1930 in Valentine, NE to William Lee ‘Bill’ and Winfred (Read) Foster, where they settled in Sparks, NE during his youth. Don graduated from high school in Valentine, NE and married the love of his life, Esther Lucille Bertran on July 12, 1952. He worked on several ranches until he was able to buy his first livestock auction in 1961, in Wessington Springs, SD; and it was there he learned the art of auctioneering. Don bought a livestock auction barn in Valentine NE; managed a livestock auction barn in Aberdeen and consigned cattle in Phillip. Don, Esther and kids moved to Baker, MT in 1977 and then in 1979 moved to Rapid City. He retired in 2009 from the livestock business. William Don is survived by his 4 children, Sherry (Mike) Sims, Sandra (Evan) Cross, Carolyn (Duane) Meyer and Donald (SanDee) Foster; 11 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He is preceded in death by his wife, his parents, two siblings and one great grandson.
